Mapping the NC ship wrecks

Postby packman on Tue Apr 14, 2009 11:29 am

I've been mapping out the offshore wrecks in Google Maps and have them saved in a Google directory named Shipwrecks of the Carolinas. I don't know how useful this may be to someone but I haven't seen anywhere where the wrecks are plotted on a single map. The directory can be found here: Shipwrecks of the Carolinas. I included a picture of the ship before it sank if I could find one. There's also ais is short blurb about the history and depth of each wreck. This is, by no means, a complete map but I will add to it as I get a chance.

If anyone finds any gross errors in the location or information of a wreck, let me know and I'll correct it. I wouldn't take these GPS numbers and jump in a boat with them, however. I got them from various sources but none came from me riding in a boat with a GPS device.

You did A very good job with this, I especially like how you put the depth of the wreck on the "blurbs".

I hit the "View in Google Earth" button at the top right next to "RSS" and have saved it to my folder. It's nice because it shows the names of the wrecks without having to click on the icon.

Very Nice Bob
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒE
The bravest of all Spartan's was Diēnékēs. On the eve of battle, he was told by a native of Trachis that the Persian archers were so numerous that, their arrows would blot out the sun. Dienekes, undaunted by this prospect, remarked with a laugh, 'Good. Then we will fight in the shade'
